Fire and Forget: A Problem Solving Approach

From the book I have read, "Love Your Work" by Robert Dickie III. Fire and forget means when a fighter pilot once locked on the target they were able to fire and forget, knowing that the missile would do its job and they can turn their attention to another target.

In the business world, they are seeking for this kind of person or mindset of people wherein leaders gave them a problems or a project to be solved and they will not required a time to time monitoring. That is what leaders are seeking. If you are one of this people, your superiors will notice it immediately, you'll become an asset of the organizations.

Well, the easiest way to become like this are the following.

1. Know the problem - Identifying the problem, a well defined problem was a half solved problem. What's need to be fix? What is not working? What needs improvement? What needs change or Who does?

2. Know your desired outcome - Some problem-solving is misleading in a sense of the outcome. To be able to avoid this, we should set our goal according to what the management needs to be. What improvement they want?

3. Be resourceful - In every problems, coming up with an ideal solution is becoming a normal. But we should considered almost all the time the Limiting Factors, this lim-facts are money, time, materials and many more. This will give our brain another stretching.

4. Feedback Loop - This portion is need to be asked. In every projects, the management will measures the degree or level of importance of every problems. During meetings with your superiors, they will present a problems and you should propose a solutions. Some of the people (intellectually lazy) are coming to these meetings just inputting a problems but not offering a solutions. This is a career-damaging behaviour you should avoid. If your solutions are picked, very good, if not, remain composed, some opportunities will knocked on your door.
